The challenge in designing this reading table for Old and New Media was to integrate the rhtyhm of the restaurant/cafe with the online presence. We created this in 1996 and won the national Rotterdam Design prize with it.
Integration in the environmnet of the restaurant/cafe was achieved by a number of thigs:
- the furniture was in the same style
- the seating was in the same way as other chairs
- reading newspapers and magazines required the same effort of body posture
- the interface on the screens matched the way covers of magazines look
- the movement on the screens was slow, like flapping pages
- turning buttons on the screen were like little lights
